The weather in Los Angeles warmed up just enough for a recent birthday party celebrating a little boy’s first year. In many cultures the first birthday is a real celebration, like the Korean dohl. In my case, when my son turned one it felt more like a celebration of the fact that I’d managed to get him through his first year fairly unscathed ![]()
This birthday party was a real celebration, with family from every corner of the country present and every generation getting down to party. What was especially nice were the warm personalities. In between shots, I struck conversation with several family members and all of them made me feel truly welcome and all of them wanted to make sure I got fed. I would have gladly accepted to eat the succulent pig right then and there as the delicious aromas wafted through the air and opened up my appetite, but I was there to photograph the birthday party so I restrained myself.
While I am primarily a Los Angeles family portrait photographer, it is nice to switch it out sometimes and photograph life as it happens. Here are just a few highlights of this happy occasion (including the food).
